Bow Harness Accessory (PDF Pattern)

This ROBERTS | WOOD KiT project is provided as a PDF pattern with step-by-step sewing instructions.

The Bow Harness Accessory, designed to be layered over other garments, is perfect for adding statement details to dresses and shirts, or for adding shaping and volume-control to more oversized looks.  

The design features 3D bows which are cleverly created when you gather the constructed fabric channels using elastic. The Bows on the Harness are created in this minimal but clever way, an example of our studio’s technique-based approach to pattern and textile design and innovative garment construction. 

 

The pattern is split up into small pattern pieces so that it can be made using your offcuts and remnants. The bow patchwork accessory is one of our smaller projects, and is suitable for the confident beginner sewist level.

Each download is a bundle which includes 2 sizes of the pattern. Note the two sizes in each bundle are supplied as separate patterns / separate files (i.e the patterns are not nested together on the same file).   • The accessory is elasticated and fully adjustable to your required size and fit. The sizing on this accessory is based on a single body circumference measurement, taken under the bust. Please see the below table to help you to select your preferred size.

  • This project is one of our simpler designs to construct.

    The basis of the construction is to assemble the fabric shoulder straps and elasticated body sections, and then join these sections together using the 4 ‘connector’ pieces

    The clever 3D bows are formed during the stage when when elastic is inserted into the constructed fabric channels.

    This pattern has been specifically developed to make use of smaller remnants and offcuts of fabric which you might have left over from other sewing projects, or possibly from other unused textiles or clothing.

  • The design will work best with lightweight fabrics, such as silks, lightweight cottons or lightweight linens.

    This recommendation is to ensure the fabric around the elastic, in the straps, gathers nicely. A thick or heavy fabric may bunch or twist. Fabric weights between 30gsm and 150gsm, will work well for this design..

    We recommend using 2.5cm -3cm wide elastic

  • This pattern is intended to be cut from remnants from your other projects however if you are sourcing fabric to use, you can refer to the below table for the fabric usage for each size:

  • This ROBERTS | WOOD KiT project is provided as a PDF pattern with full sewing instructions. It includes an A4 printable PDF pattern, which can be printed and assembled at home using any standard home printer. All our projects include detailed instructions, showing you step by step how to make the project.

  • Materials required:

    • 1 or more different lightweight fabrics for cutting the pattern pieces.

    • 2.5cm wide elastic for inserting into the strap / channels. (You will need between 1.5-2.2m of elastic depending on your size)

    There is an option to fuse the small ‘connector’ pieces, if your fabric is very unstructured, so you will need some small pieces of fusible interfacing if you want to do this.

    Equipment required:

    Paper scissors, sellotape (for assembling A4 pattern), Iron, fabric scissors, measuring tape, tailors chalk, safety pin, pins, sewing machine.

  • Confident beginner sewist level and beyond

    This pattern is a great choice for anyone from confident beginner level and upwards. It assumes knowledge of basic sewing techniques and terminology, although most of the processes are very straightforward and easy to follow. It is a fun project for anyone who wants to learn new textile and sewing skills.

    The project also provides detailed instructions, broken down for each step, so don’t worry if you don’t know where to start with assembling the design.

    This is a perfect project to use up some fabric offcuts that might otherwise be going to waste.

    This is one of our smaller projects and could easily be constructed in a day.
