ABOUT ROBERTS | WOOD KiT
‘ROBERTS | WOOD KiT’ is a series of specialist designer sewing patterns and sewing projects from the ROBERTS | WOOD Design Studio, created especially for those who love to make.
The purpose of this series of DIY projects is to provide an exclusive insight into our studio’s signature pattern-making, textile and construction methods.
The foundation of ROBERTS | WOOD is based on an obsession with exploring how garments are constructed - we wanted to create an accessible way to share our passion for making with design and sewing enthusiasts.
The sewing patterns and KiTs empower the maker to create a designer piece at home, in easy-to-follow stages.
As well as offering sewists this unique making experience, ‘R|W KiT’ projects are intended to explore a completely different and more sustainable way for the design-lover to experience fashion.
A large part of ROBERTS | WOOD’s creative practice is dedicated to ‘live research’ into more sustainable ways of making and consuming fashion products: from creating textiles from waste fabrics to producing very limited-edition runs and small scale, in-house ‘made-to-order’ pieces.
THE PATCHWORK SERIES
The Patchwork Series is an ongoing collection of beautiful garment patterns (available as downloadable pdfs) that have been designed specifically with the intention of utilising your remnants, off-cuts from other sewing projects or even unwanted or salvaged textiles. The pattern pieces are deliberately divided into smaller shapes to enable even small off-cuts to be re-used, so that you can create something beautiful from what may otherwise be wasted.
The unusual patchwork designs integrate 3D textile design into the heart of the pattern-cutting, demonstrating ROBERTS | WOOD’s signature approach to creating ‘textiles through construction’
THE FLOWERTWIST ‘HEX’ BAG
The Flowertwist Hex bag was the first project available from R|W KiT, launched in 2021. The bag is designed in the form of a sculptural, oversized twisted flower and inspired by patterns and structures in nature - in this case the spiralling growth patterns of flowers. The innovative sewing process is designed to be straight-forward, providing a simplified way of tackling an otherwise complex construction, which fuses innovative pattern cutting with fabric manipulation.
